can anyone recommend a software for learning french? I want something with good value for money?

I’m trying to learn french but there are so many softwares on the internet and all sorts of positive and negative reviews. I can’t make up my mind. Has anyone used the ff:
1. Learn to speak french v 8.1
2. Smartfrench
3.MLS immersion pro
4.(Cosmi)Learn to speak french v 9.5 deluxe.

Thanks for any recommendations

rosetta stone is by far the best. it is what we use in the army for language training

French vocabulary to English?

Hi, may I ask, how many loan words are there in the English Dictionary are actually French words or origin? Because in my Encarta 2007 Dictionary there are lots of French words listed under the English Dictionary, does it lessen the importance or value of French language in the world? And why English keeps doing this >>borrowing words from French!!! the most… i know there are lots of languages contribute also to English. but why french has the most? The worst is, they alter the pronunciation! and sometimes the meaning!

Like mademoiselle-> in french it must be mad-mwah-zhel! in encarta-english they did it us–> ma de moh zel.

toillette–they pronounce it as twah-ley- instead of twah-let.

eau-instead of OH–they made it OW… (too curly!!!)

and many more!!!

Marn is correct. Norman French were in England. An interesting thing to notice however is that the Pics, Celts, and Scandinavians all were in England for a good amount of time yet they don’t even have close to the same number of shared words.

Another reason for this as we mentioned besides the fact that the Norman French are an important part, is that French has been such a dominating language for so long. In fact even today it is the second widely spoken language in the world. Meaning number of countries with speakers of it.

Not only that, but French culture has been dominating in the arts including poetry, writing, and paintings. In Europe England and French were dominating languages for so long. This along with the Norman influence were probably the reasons for French being one of the most influential languages on English.

English, BTW, has the most words in the world, by far. Close to one million. Chinese is second with around 1/2 million. English borrows A LOT from other languages.

Could someone help me with a french translation?

this is for those who speak fluent french, preferably from france, belgium or canada. iam having some trouble with this paragraph, iam hoping someone could help me out. please no free translation references. thanks to anyone that could do this for me. it would be greatly appreciated and it would give you a cool 10 points. merci.

In my house I will talk about 6 rooms.

The first room is my room. It isn’t very big but it isn’t small. I sleep here and use the computer.

The second room is my living room. It has a television and a sofa. It is next to the kitchen, were I eat.

The third room is my brothers room. I was my room but I moved out 4 years ago. It is on the second story.

The fourth room is my parents room. It is the biggest room and has a lot of things.

The fifth room is my laundry room. It has a washer and dryer and it is very small.

The sixth room is the room under my stairs. This room is also very small. When I was young I used to play video games under it.

Ok, that’s it, but to be honest with you, the writing in English doesn’t seem right to me.

Good luck
