La Jetee (in French, English subtitles from 16mm) pt.1

Classic sci-fi that influenced many later directors and films. Hard to find- I did a poor job shooting this from a 16mm film which I can’t borrow again, was unable to make the subtitles clearer- but i hope there is enjoyment anyway, YT has several dubbed-in English versions- one not too good (the narrator uses the phrase, “the head experimentater” making me think for all his perfect accent he is not a native english speaker- it hurts the solemn mood of the film when such comical gaffs occur, and holes in a really nice soundtrack to replace the narration- another dub is better done, tho the guy sounds like Keith Moon, quite cockney… and one is a student project with a re-dubbed soundtrack. This is the film as released on 16mm, retaining the original soundtrack, and with subtitles that are hard to read…but like most Americans I hate dubbing. Wanna hear the sound more as the director intended. So even tho its not a great copy, on this one you can hear it in French and read it in English…it has a cool soundtrack- I like to mic the films from near the projector so you get to hear the clacking and whirring. So if like me you understand v. little French but hate dubbing, you may like to see this version.

What can I do with a bilingual french-english degree in elementary education other than teach?

I will gradute from a french immersion campus next year with a bilingual degree in elementary education, and I’m not sure that teaching is for me. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Continue on into a Master’s program. Your undergrad degree seems quite limiting in scope, the master’s will allow for you to diversify into a new area.

J’ai la peau douce,
I have soft skin,
Dans mon bain de mousse,
In my bubble bath,
Je m’eclabousse,
I splash,
J’en ris!
I laugh!

Mon poisson rouge,
My red fish,
Dans mon bain de mousse,
In my bubble bath,
Je l’emmitoufle
I wrap him up tenderly,
Je lui dis:
I tell him,

J’ai pas de probleme,
I don’t have any problems,
Je faineante,
I lay around,
Pas de malaise,
No sicknesses,
Je faineante,
I lay about,
Dans l’eau je baigne,
In the bath,
C’est l’important,
It is important,
Bien a mon aise dans l’air du temps,
Completely content, lost in time,

J’ai la peau douce,
I have soft skin,
Dans mon bain de mousse,
In my bubble bath,
Je brule a l’ombre,
I lay in the shadow,
Des bombes,
Of the bath bombs,

Tout est delice,
Everything is delicious,
Des lits des cibles,
Some beds, some targets,
Je fais la liste des choses,
I’m making a list of things,
Qui m’indisposent,
That irritate me,

–REFRAIN / CHORUS–
J’en ai marre de ceux qui pleurent,
I’m fed up of those who whine,
Qui ne roule qu’a 2 a l’heure,
Who only drive 2KM per hour,
Qui se lamentent et qui s’fixent,
Who are obsessed and who fixate,
Sur l’idee d’une idee fixe,
On a fixed idea,
J’en ai marre de ceux qui ralent,
I’m fed up of those who rant,
Des extremistes a 2 balles,
Single minded extremists,
Qui voient la vie tout en noire,
Who only sees the negative,
Qui m’expedient dans l’cafard,
Lead me on like hippocrits,
J’en ai marre de la grande soeur,
I’m fed up of my big sister,
Qui gemit tout et qui pleure,
Who whines and cries about everything,
Marre de la pluie, des courgettes,
Fed up with the rain, with zucchinis,
Qui m’font vomir sous la couette,
That make me throw up under the covers,
J’en ai marre de ces cyniques,
I’m fed up with these cynics,
Et dans les pres les colchiques,
Meadows of autumn flowers,
J’en ai marre d’en avoir marre,
I’m fed up with being fed up.
Aussi…
Also…

J’ai la peau douce,
I have soft skin,
Dans mon bain de mousse,
In my bubble bath,
Pas de secousses sismiques,
No seismic tremors,

Je me prelasse,
I relax,
Et me delasse,
And refresh myself,
C’est mon etat aquatique,
It’s my aquatic state,
Y’a comme un hic!
There’s a catch!

–REFRAIN/CHORUS–

Badabam…

Badabam…

I have glanced over her body a long time,
J’ai longtemps parcouru son corps,
Caressed her face a hundred times,
Effleuré cents fois son visage,
I found gold,
J’ai trouvé de l’or,
And even some stars when wiping her tears,
Et même quelques étoiles en essuyant ses larmes,
And I’ve learned by heart the purity of her curves,
Et J’ai appris par coeur la pureté de ses formes,
Sometimes I still draw them,
Parfois je les dessine encore,
She’s a part of me,
Elle fait partie de moi,

I just want a last dance,
Je veux juste une dernière danse,
Before the shadows and indifference,
Avant l’ombre et l’indifférence,
A dizziness, then silence,
Un vertige puis le silence,
I just want a last dance,
Je veux juste une dernière danse,

I knew her too soon,
Je l’ai connue trop tôt,
But it’s not my fault,
Mais c’est pas de ma faute,
The arrow went through my skin,
La flèche a traversé ma peau,
It’s a pain who keeps itself,
C’est une douleur qui se garde,
That does more good than harm,
Qui fait plus de bien que de mal,
But I know history,
Mais je connais l’histoire,
It’s already too late,
Il est déjà trop tard,
In her eyes (look),
Dans son regard,
You can see she prepares herself,
On peut apercevoir qu’elle se prépare,
For a long journey,
Au long voyage,

I just want a last dance,
Je veux juste une dernière danse,
Before the shadows and indifference,
Avant l’ombre et l’indifférence,
A dizziness, then silence,
Un vertige puis le silence,
I just want a last dance,
Je veux juste une dernière danse,

I could die tomorrow,
Je peux mourir demain,
It would change nothing,
Ca ne change rien,
I received from her hands,
J’ai reçu de ses mains,
The happiness anchored in my soul,
Le bonheur ancré dans mon âme,
It’s too much for even one man,
C’est même trop pour un seul homme,

And I saw her leaving without saying anything,
Et je l’ai vue partir sans rien dire,
It’s only necessary that she breathes,
Il fallait seulement qu’elle respire,
Thank you for enchanting my life,
Merci d’avoir enchanté ma vie,

Before the shadows and indifference,
Avant l’ombre et l’indifférence,
A dizziness, then silence,
Un vertige puis le silence,
I just want a last dance.
Je veux juste une dernière danse.
