I am looking to find a French pen pal – preferably someone at least 35 years old – to engage in correspondence that will assist in the gentrification of my usage of the French language. I have attempted to research the topic online, but have only come across dating sites and personal ads. I would really like to spend the next year in intense study – or colloquy – in preparation for a trip in 2011. Can anyone help?

some even have groups of people who meet in cafes etc to speak french

As for myself, I actually used Facebook..looked up some common Swedish surnames, found someone who was in the Swedish network, sent them a mesage asking if they’d be willing to write back and forth. Perhaps not the best way to go about doing it, especially if you’re looknig for 35+ in age and are truly serious about lingual immersion……but as a happy ending to my situation, my swedish pen pal has been my friend for 2 and a half years now, we visit each other regularly, and he has been my boyfriend now for four months…fancy that, ha!
So…maybe it’s worth a try??
