I teach / tutor French in my spare time (in addition to taking my classes at university) but not for free.
About.com and Livemocha.com are probably going to be your best bets – but to call them free is in theory since you’re paying your ISP for your time online ..
Bonne Chance! (Good Luck)

You can learn a lot on your own. However, there are things you will not grasps without having a tutor or taking a class.
