I am a french student in high school. I am able to read it fairly well, but when I try to listen to people speak it I feel like beginner… I don’t understand a word they say! Like if I listen to a french song, I’m lost until I look at the lyrics… Is there any way I can rectify this problem? Or could you recommend some sort of website that would help? I want to be able to travel to a french speaking country and be able to hold fluent conversations… Thank you!

movies, songs mainly. Gotta train your ear. Reading is easy. Writing is easy. These, however, are like 10% of a language’s practicality. 90% is the listening speaking.
Listen to songs. Print out the lyrics, memorize them, sing along with the song. This way you have applications for the words.
Same with movies.

Well same situation here, im in high school as well and taking french also. What came to help me was just studying and pronouncing the words after i heard how the teacher would say them. I just kept reading it and pronouncing it, and having a great teacher, she would help correct me when i mis pronounced something. and well that helped me good. Though with some french songs i still cant understand some of the words they say xD

I just started French last year (I take it in school, too!) and I basically just watched movies in French that I knew very well in English. For example, I loove Disney, so I watched a ton of the movies in French (most DVDs have a language option where you can pick a language). It helped me so much. Once I was super comfortable with them, I started watching actual French movies, first subtitled, and then with only the language. It has helped SO much; I find it so amazing that I can understand almost all of what is happening even though I just started the language. (: I also bought a ton of French music, which has helped a lot. (:
