  It totally depends on what you make of it. For me, it’s a flat 0. But I have no desire to go France/Quebec/that part of Africa.
  But, if you do, then obviously it’s more important.
  Canadian products will be in English and French (as will all North American products).
  But the point is, it’s only as important as you make it. French is still used as a diplomatic language most international language organizations (the UN, EU, AU, etc), it’s in the top 10 of most spoken languages in the world, and of course the francophone culture may interest you or whatnot.
  Depending on your point of view, it could be a 0 and it could be a 10.

  I’d say about a 6. In the grand scheme of things, French is not that important worldwide. Many people in Quebec are actually bilingual and can speak both English and French, not to mention the States doesn’t actually "get much" from Canada, sadly.

  In terms of people, it is something like the 11th or 12th most spoken language…outside of Canada, French, and parts of Africa, you won’t hear much of it, really. If you enjoy the language, go for it! Learning any language is a fun and interesting process. But if you are looking for a more "important" language — that is, more globally significant — I’d say go with Chinese, Spanish, or Arabic. But either way, have fun!

  um, like a 6?? spanish is more useful, except if your going into fashion. spanish is still useful in fashion but french is the dominant fashion language. =]

  For me it’s maybe a 7… I’m from Canada, but I live on the West coast, so I’m pretty far away from Quebec and New Brunswick.
  There are lots of places in the world that speak French, and it’s one of the official languages of the UN.

  It really does depend on where you live and what you want to do.

  Well French actually made English and Spanish a lot easier for me. It’s a very beautiful language, and it’s still a very elegant one, even today. Plus the history of the country, and of "francophonie" in general is fascinating, and very versatile.

  I’d give it like a 4 or 5. Sure it’s useful with the UN and dealing with French speakers, but other languages are taking more and more importance these days. Mandarin Chinese, Arabic, Russian…languages like these have a much higher demand due to today’s political and economic situations. Although if you’re going to use French for a more personal and enjoyable use, then I say go for it.
