How proficient in French will I be after I finish both Pimsleur and Rosetta Stone?

I am very far in both of these programs. I am on lesson 65 of 90 for Pimsleur and I am beginning disk 3 of 3 of Rosetta Stone.

I feel like, yeah I know a lot of French, but I don’t really feel like I’m where I wanted to be. I don’t expect to get amazingly good at French at the end of these programs.

Has anyone else completed these programs and had it work very well for them? If you had the same attitude as me while at the same part of the programs or If you were as disappointed as me, can you recommend something you did to add on to the knowledge that these programs gave you?

Personally, I’m convinced that the only way to actually learn how to speak a language is to actually use it in real life.

What do you think about the Pimsleur method of learning a language?

Besides the fact that it doesn’t teach you to write the language. So far, I have completed one unit of Pimsleur’s French and I have a hard time remembering the words and phrases. Is this normal for the first unit?
