Bill Maher blasts conservatives who dismiss everything French as if it’s somehow now “the ultimate argument winner” (see: “Kerry looks French” or Bill O’Reilly’s boycott), then goes off on how conservative social issues tarnish the political process. I don’t want any bitching on this page, against anyone, thanks.

@yonmama I did read it but all British colonies have independence America would of gained it at some time with or without Frances help. We have a figure head of state the Queen she has very little power. The house of commons which are elected people voted in by the common man or woman and have all the power pre date your claim to France created democracy

@yomama629 The oldest democracy in the world is Great Britain. Demos Kratos stands for “People Power” Greece invented it.

If it wasn’t for our help in 1776, we would have been helped in WWII by the British colonies…

@chileanchild French philosophers Voltaire and Rousseau gave the Americans their ideas of democracy in their work, so modern democracy is definitely a French idea

@Trashfished name the other countries which contributed, and mention the dates you turned in both world wars; it was very late, if you want all the credit I guess there is nothing I can do or say that will change your mind.
Mine was one of them!

Admitting that the US Empire still has severe social weanesses is the first step towards a new and positive US revolution.
Think about it folks: a country powerful enough to nuke a rat in its hole anywhere on earth, to send dudes on the moon, but yet cant even ensure a minimum level of well being, dignity and healthcare for its citizen, nor can it garantee free or at least easy access to higher education, the KEY to a nation’s evolution…
Its time the USA revisits its priorities

@99hesoe well sorta. US signed their declaration of Independence on July 4th 1776, and its constitution in 1788 with the French Revolution beginning in 1789 and its respective constitution emerging first in 1791. Regardless many American politicians such as Ben Franklin, and Thomas Jefferson had immensely close ties to France and French thought, so I guess you could say the two countries co developed modern democracy. To argue either as a sole inventor negates a good bit of historical context.

The Russians fought a war of attrition which neither Britain or France was willing to do after WW1. Cracking the German Enigma code shaved 2 years off WW2. Without radar and fighter command the battle of Britain would of been lost. Churchill was in fighter command on the day the German Luftwaffe threw ever plane they had at us and he asked “What do we have in reserve” the reply was “We have nothing my Lord”.

@Freez57fr unfortunately like in WW1 right at the last moment, in WW2 after the major part of the holocaust had occurred; Churchills people had cracked the Japanese code and knew they were going to attack Pearl harbour, but kept it a secret; as Britain had a war on two fronts, having said that their help was appreciated, the Russians had the toughest fight; astounding casualities 20 million?

You’re totally right.
Except slavery (because the blacks is an important minority) they don’t know anything about the black pages of their History.

you shouldn’t botter. I know you are right. But the guy is brainwashed by US propaganda and their version of history. We in the Netherlands learned in school that a high proportion of jews were sent to concentration camps because a lot of dutch civil servants just collaborated because they wanted things to go on as normal as possible. You probably learned how fucked up the Vichy regime was but I doubt they teach the black pages of US history on their schools. It probably is unpatriotical to do.

In terms of all European countries, the troops in NATO aren’t enough. They are a few thousand, who aren’t permitted to fight unless they are fired on, or to go out on patrol. So the Taliban just avoids them and its no problem.
Please, I know Iraq didn’t have to do with terrorism. You have a long history of not cooperating. You didn’t want us to go into Iraq because it ruined your special oil and weapons deals with Saddam. You didn’t let us fly over France to Libya in the 80′s, andcost us life

Yes we did. The Russians were leaving the war, and the majority of the German forces were on the Eastern Front. You could barely handle the Germans with what they had in the West. They did not expect the US to come over so quicky.
Interesting, isn’t that the same numbers for WWI? Yet France and GB did 95% of the work?
I seriously doubt that the US was firebombing French cities as if they were no different from German cities.
