I found this book very useful because it covered the most common french words and phrase by related catagories. A good way to inter-relate concepts.

I like that this book presents vocabulary by thematic groups. I think that it’s easier to learn and retain by topic.

This book is excellent. Words are grouped according to subject and examples are given to illustrate possible differences in their use in a sentence.

This is a great book. You can look inside to see the content, so I won’t repeat that here. What I will say is that I agree with the other reviewers on the detailed thematic approach, depth and value of this type of organization when memorization is often difficult and tedious. Another tip I didn’t see, but I think you might appreciate is recording yourself or a native speaker using a digital recorder and making your own flashcards color-coded by thematic area. A spreadsheet with a category sort key and another priority sort key is another useful way to practice. It depends how quickly you want to learn. However, this book does a lot of organizing for you, so it speeds up retention, review, etc.

If you are clueless about words and phrases in a particular subject area, this book can be of some help. But it has many limitations, I feel, and I got so fed up with looking for things in this book that weren’t in it, that I just sold my copy.
